The main street of Stockbridge is iconic. Norman Rockwell painted it in 1967, and it has not changed in the intervening decades. Safeguarding downtown Stockbridge's historic appearance has even extended to refusing to install a stoplight at the busy intersection of Rt 102 and Rt 7 at the center of town. Few small towns in the world are as lovingly preserved.
