Photography Show Highlights City's Urban Landscapes
Collaboration with Berkshire Film & Media Commission Brings Over 100 New Images to Website
Beginning January 15th, the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts hosts Berkshire City: Pittsfield on Film,
a juried contemporary photography show designed to showcase the urban landscape of Pittsfield,
its unique neighborhoods, striking architecture and diverse settings.
The photography show was planned to both celebrate Pittsfield’s built environment and to collect photographs of the city to be featured on www.berkshirefilm.com, the website of the Berkshire Film & Media Commission. The photos on that site will be available to location scouts who may be considering Berkshire County for a film shoot.
“The Berkshire City show is an innovative way to showcase the creative talent of our local and regional photographers and highlight their images to attract a key creative industry to Pittsfield and the Berkshires – the multibillion dollar motion picture and film industry,” commented Megan Whilden, Director of Cultural Development for the City of Pittsfield. “Plus it’s terrific to see so many different creative images of our city.”
Berkshire City opens Friday, January 15 with an artists reception open to the public from 5pm to 7pm. Berkshire City: Pittsfield on Film features 26 photographers, including Kevin Sprague, Kay Canavino, Karl Volkman, Mary Garnish, Joseph Wilk, Timothy Kushi, Scott Barrow, Scott Edward Cole, Nicole Garzino and many more. The exhibition runs through March 6th and the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts gallery, located at 28 Renne Avenue in downtown Pittsfield, is free & open to the public Wednesday-Saturday from 12pm-5pm. The show is sponsored by the City of Pittsfield Office of Cultural Development, Berkshire Film & Media Commission, and Mission Bar & Tapas.
The reception will be followed by a concert from the innovative, transcontinental (they’re from New York City and Los Angeles) trumpet and guitar collaboration, TIN/BAG, a group who has been called, "Radiant... there's an open, intensely emotional quality to the duo's playing... spare, haunting, with hints of modernist avant garde gestures." by Andy Hamilton of The Wire (UK). The concert begins at 7:30pm and is $10.
